Florida Rural Electric Credit Union was chartered in December 1975. Today, the credit union has 2700 members with total assets in excess of $17 million.

Each member’s shares are insured by the NCUA (National Credit Union Administration), a government agency for up to $100,000.

Eligibility for membership in FRECU is extended to persons or entities as follows:

Employees or members of the Florida Electric Cooperatives Association or its current or former member cooperatives; and
Members of the Board of Directors of the Florida Electric Cooperatives Association; and
Employees of the Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc.; and
Employees of the Cooperative Computer Center, Inc.: and
Members of the immediate family of such persons; and
The entities comprising the current and past member cooperatives of the Florida Electric Cooperatives Association.

Immediate family is defined as parents, children, spouse, or surviving spouse of the member, or any other relative by blood, marriage or adoption even though such individuals do not reside in the same household with the member.

A member who leaves the eligible field of membership as defined in sections 1-4 above may continue their credit union membership.
